Exploring The Moomba Festival For 2018

From Friday, 9 March – Monday, 12 March, Moomba Festival 2018 will be bustling with a jam-packed program of free events for the whole family. Now in its 64th year, Moomba will turn the banks of the Yarra River into an all-ages playground with music, entertainment, food and cultural diversity at the heart of it.

With new activities alongside perennial favourites including the Birdman Rally, Moomba Parade, carnival, water sports and skating competitions, this four-day festival is bringing some serious fun for all the family.

Melburnians will be able to enjoy more free daily activities than ever before, with live music performances, cultural and interactive installations, and dance workshops across the site.

New attractions for 2018 include a dynamic Dance Zone, showcasing mesmerising performances and workshops for the entire family; The Dreaming Space, hosting magic shows, circus acts and pantomime performances; and Kids Yoga, free yoga sessions dedicated to building young healthy minds and bodies.

With a new route for 2018, the famous Moomba Parade will showcase the magic of Melbourne on Monday, 12 March. This unique display of energy will feature community-designed floats, cultural performance troupes, professional and amateur dance groups, and school participants. In what is a truly Melburnian event, around 2,000 people from across the city will participate in the parade, as over 80,000 spectators line the streets. The parade will give a platform to Melbourne’s creative and collaborative nature once again featuring floats designed by local children who took part in last year’s float design workshop at the festival.
